Incentives and solutions for modern agriculture

Innovation and incentives drive the demand for agricultural machinery

Modern agriculture, especially in the post-pandemic era driven by a desire for rapid recovery and constant growth (as we have seen in a recent news article), presupposes the ability and determination to invest in increasingly efficient and technological solutions.

As required by a market that has to balance between the need for recovery and the achievement of objectives in terms of environmental sustainability, investments in innovative machinery and, at the same time, in more sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions are increasingly on the agenda.

The Italian market for agricultural machinery and machinery for the processing of agricultural land again reached a new high in 2021. This also applies to Cosmeco, which has returned to its best pre-pandemic results. This is a very important result for the company, achieved by constant attention to innovation, the development of new proposals in line with the trends of innovation and sustainability, along with top quality and variety of machinery offered. As for the market, there are two important factors driving the recovery we want to focus on.

The growth of the last period is certainly due to the rebound compared to the negative performance of 2020, but also to a series of incentives and structural interventions we have undertaken - pending the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Furthermore, we must consider an increasing confidence in technology, and in solutions for agriculture 4.0 including the mechanized ones.

Incentives that drive market growth

In the pandemic and post-pandemic period, public support has played a fundamental role, especially with the tax incentives for the 4.0 transition and with those of the Nuova Sabatini Law (which, we will see shortly, has also recently been renewed in the new Stability Law).

As Comacomp reports, “2021 resulted in a record growth.This favorable situation should be confirmed in the coming months, given that the data on orders is rising: a trend that seems to be confirmed (despite the physiological end-of–the-year dip) and which, thanks also to the new government measures, should stabilize the growth of the sector.

The tax breaks for agricultural machinery?

There are various contributions and concessions that the Government has provided to support the growth of the sector and to help companies invest in agricultural machinery, such as those proposed by Cosmeco. Probably the most important measure is the new Sabatini Law, designed precisely to facilitate investments by SMEs for the purchase of machinery, and which has been refinanced for the 2020-2025 period.

In particular, in the 2022 Budget Law, it was refinanced with 900 million euros spread over the 2022-2027 period. Disbursement will be 240 million euros in 2022 and 2023 (for a total of 480 million), 120 million in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and 60 million in 2027. The objective of the measure is to support companies that apply for financing to invest in new capital goods - machinery, plants, and agricultural equipment for productive use and digital technologies. These also include investments in agricultural machinery, as long as they are new investments, and not replacements of the existing stock. It is a contribution to partially cover the interest on the loan, which is equivalent to a 10% saving on the investment value of agricultural machinery 4.0.

With the allocation of new funds, the methods of disbursement have changed:

  • For loans up to € 200,000, the one-time settlement criterion will always be followed;
  • Loans of a higher amount will be spread over several years.

Confidence in innovation grows

Another boost to growth and investment comes from the growing confidence in innovative and technological solutions to support recovery and to improve the efficiency, quality and quantity of crops. In fact, a recent survey by the BCS company shows that as many as 87% of farmers have "great confidence" in the technological transformations applied to agriculture.

As a result, 67.5% believe that the technologies currently present are useful for improving their daily business. The data concerning the sustainability of the sector is even more relevant: for 95.3%, technological innovations are essential for greater environmental sustainability.

The Italian agricultural sector obviously expects a quick return on technological investments, because of constant improvement of technologies, development of new sustainable solutions and ever better quality of machinery. However, what is expected above all is greater efficiency, greater practicality, cost savings and consumption, environmental sustainability, and support in the management of equipment, crops and products.
